The British are Coming!

Whoa. Who watched the World Cup match between the US and England today? 1 - 1! Not too shabby!

The New York Post had the match on the front page and was calling it the Revolutionary War 2. How funny is that?? And of course you KNOW what it made me think of!

  2. I gave Donovan the credit instead of Dempsey. Still love Donovan's bicycle kicks. Go team USA.

  3. I'm cracking up at the NYPost and their covers. Today's says "USA WINS 1-1!" WTF?? They're insane. Anyway - I was thrilled we held our own and walked away without a loss. (I hate to approach it that way but it IS soccer and it IS the USA. Any kind of "non-loss" is a win - in a way - when you consider our soccer history.)

  4. hi carol
the football/soccer was on, my dh was watching it, i am not very positive when england is on they have been very disappointing over the years so i always tend to put a downer on when theres a match looming :-) (doesn,t go down well as you can imagine) the fact i hate football doesn,t help i suppose lol
    -glad you,re enjoying the reread.
-i,ve put a comment and suggestion in the playlist don,t know whether you,ve seen it yet.

  5. PS - I had no choice but to love soccer. I went to Philadelphia Textile which is now Philadelphia University. When I was there our soccer team was something like 8th in the nation. (I still cringe when I see Alexi Lalas. We played Rutgers and I remember loathing him every year. LOL)

Anyway...the photo of Scotland in my banner on the site was sent to me by my friend Hugh who lives in Scotland but played on that team.

  6. Yup! That's my point Lesley! Are you guys kindof disappointed that you tied us yesterday... since football is so huge over there? I hate to have a "Yey! We didn't lose!" attitude... LOL but I can't help it!

Oooh thanks - I'll check out your playlist comment!

  7. OK, maybe everyone else has already figured this out a loooong time ago (and it has absolutely nothing to do with football/soccer or the NY Post...) BUT, I was watching Gerard Butler in 'P.S. I love You' last night and realized that he pronounces Laoghaire for all the world to hear! It's in the scene where he and Holly (aka Hillary Swank) first meet in Ireland and he asks her where she's staying - she tells him @ a B & B in Dun Laoghaire and pronounces it just like I always said it in my head... then he corrects her - no that's Dun La'heery. oooo!!! Like I said, probably old news to y'all, but I was so excited I kept rewinding just so I could hear Jamie - I mean Gerard! - say it over and over!

  8. I've never noticed that Christie! I think it's one of the few Gerry Butler DVD's I've not got.

Have you seen Timeline? I just love the way he keeps saying "Lady Claire" and of course it has the whole timetravel thing going on as a bonus.

We are really digressing from the topic though ...

    GOOOOOOOOOOOO ENGLAND !!!!!

  9. Oooh Christie girlllll! You are my FAVORITE person right now! I think we need a soundbite online! Either that or I'll have to rent it. Which wouldn't be hard seeing as I LOVE MYSELF SOME GERARD BUTLER IN THAT MOVIE... and if THAT weren't enough, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in it, too!

  10. I know, right? Gerry has rarely looked better than in that movie! I read on compuserve or someplace that Herself picked Lagohaire's name off a map... hehehehe
Maybe the writers of that movie just put it in there b/c all us DG fans would hear it and get all ooooo - Gerard Butler for Jamie Fraser! Whoo-hooo! I do wonder, however, why the whozits made his character be from Ireland rather than Scotland? What's up with that? Ireland has a better film board or something? Don't get me wrong - love me some Ireland - Irish grannie and all that, but still... the man's actually from Scotland for crying out loud! Thots?!
Love the sound bite plan - do it, please!! Oh, and I think somewhere I heard him (or someone!) on tv saying 'sassenachs' too!!! get that on here - quick!

  11. Oh Christie you're right. I am half Irish and love the accent - but I love the Scots accent more. Then again, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was pretty shaky with the Irish accent so I can't imagine him being able to do a Scottish accent that well!

  12. Yeah, well JDM was really just eye candy for all that, aye? Anyhoo - I'll try to make it to the chat tonight but I've got to work so I might not be able to but we'll see. (I tutor university athletes 3 nites a week & my guy has an exam Wed.)
