The Most Beautiful Song on the Planet

You must read this commentary from Diana on Compuserve - and then make sure you listen to the song.

Put it this way... this was Tracey's email to me last night about it:

"Holy effing lord. Go here and click the link. And have tissues ready."

  1. I saw the Twitter post last night and clicked on it. I could na believe it....It's such an unexpected and wonderful surprise. Can't wait to get hold of that CD. I've been playing it all day and driving my 8 y.o. daughter crazy!

  2. Direct link to Diana's blog explaining the song cycle project: http://voyagesoftheartemis.blogspot.com/2010/07/and-now-for-something-completely.html

Let me tell you, I am soiling my wee pantalones over this. An entire MUSICAL SCORE devoted to Jamie and Claire???? Seriously--I'm need to go out and buy myself a crash cart because my heart just keeps stopping....

  3. This song is heartbreakingly beautiful. I canna wait till August for the whole cd of outlander songs. I read that one of the songs will be with black jack and jamie, I bet that one will be scary. this fall will be full of new and exciting stuff. I'm doing a happy dance.

  4. In addition to Spoiler Alerts, we should have Bawling Alerts. I need a tissue! What a lovely treat to have while we wait for Book 8.

  5. I can't figure out how to link directly to a message within a Compuserve thread--but later in the same thread Diana talks about a few different songs that are also in the song cycle--a duet with Frank and Claire and one with Jamie/BJR. The post is message # 67918.59.

Good lord, 8/1 canna come soon enough!!!

  6. I can't believe a song less than 3 min long could rocked my world especially because I could only understand 30 sec of it.

  7. Absolutely gorgeous. I saw Tracey's email and was like "??? what's THIS all about?" and within seconds of the song starting, the tears were streaming down my face.

  8. And then Jo was a puddle on the floor because:
    1. Annie Lennox! (I still bawl like a baby when I hear "Into the West" from Return of the King)
    2. "What does it mean?"
    3. SCOTTISH MAN SPEAKING WITH SCOTTISH ACCENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The vows/explanation of the vows is one of my favorite moments in the series, so needless to say I was a very happy camper!

  9. Weeeel....as per Diana, it is not THE Annie Lennox--it's another, younger one who sings with her sister. (LOL--I thought the same thing and had to google it right away. Imagine if they got the REAL Annie Lennox to do this??? HUGE get.)

And I just listened to the vows/explanation (as read by Davina) in the car on the way to work. Wowwie MacWowwie.

  10. Yeah, I just read about it being not THE Annie Lennox.

It's still pretty awesome...and now I might need to find that part in Outlander. Any clue as to what track it is in the audio?

  11. Track 2 (of four), maybe an hour and 45 in? I'm at 1:53:12 and Jamie is talking about how respect has room for secrets but not for lies.

  12. I want a new edition of Outlander with the appropriate Exile pictures interspersed to illustrate the story. I want to open pages and have the new music play at the right times. Maybe I want scratch and sniff stickers to go with all the olfactory descriptions. (obsession? OCD? I don't know but I can't stop myself)

  13. L: Why stop there? As long as we're dreaming here, _I_ would like HERSELF to come over to my house and read me the entire book. Can someone make that happen please?? ;-)

  14. Oh, I loved this! This is almost better than a movie :-) where they biff up the story line and cast inappropriate actors (am having issues w/some Pillars of the Earth things, as you can see).
    It's beautiful!
And if we're completely daydreaming, I'd love Himself to come over and read the book. And act it out. Ye ken?

  15. Sirena: Oh, I ken. But only if he takes his time about it, aye?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't want to to be disrespectful but, Herself is not the person I want to hear read. Now, I have only heard her read a few pages on Youtube, but it didn't do a thing for me.
Himself, YES! Why not get Devina to read the women's parts and some hot Scot to read the men's parts? It would be sooo hot.
    Oh well back to daydreaming.

  17. L: Interesting! I actually love hearing DG read. I downloaded some podcasts she did awhile back and listened to them all--she did a few readings in that. I know she read the "I like you, I love you, I worship you, I want to put my..." scene from ABOSAA--I actually like her Jamie better than Davina's. (Tho Davina's Claire blows everyone else's out of the water.)

There's some video on YouTube of DG reading a scene from Echo--I wish I could remember which it was, but it was soooo poignant that I was just about in tears by the end...

  18. mmmm, I will give her another try and do a search. (Some of her videos are hilarious.)
I really want a man to read Jamie, but I would want them to go back and redo all of the books and that won't happen. I want to keep Davina for Claire.

  19. Carol and I have been talking about Davina a lot (I just started listening to parts of Outlander)--we both agree that her Claire is the quintessential version--EXACTLY the voice I hear in my head, a perfect balance of emotional/wry/baffled/etc. Her Jamie, on the other hand...well, not like he's MEAN, exactly, but the voice lacks the lightness and humor that Diana seems to bring to it when she does the reading.

Agree--it would be way cool to have a guy read Jamie's part...

  20. L - "scratch and sniff" just made me pee my pantalones. Seriously.

OMG - I am having issues with the audio right friggin now. I just sat through the "Claire almost burning at the stake" scene - and finally got to what I thought was going to be Jamie and Claire nirvana at the cottage after she told him she stayed - only to hear about them crying - sleeping - crying - sleeping - and riding off on a horse. I had to run and get my Kindle to confirm because I thought my iPod skipped ahead. Where's the sex? Where's the "I canna live without you?" Where's the profession of love?? Did I make this up in my head?!?

PS - here's what I hear when I think of Davina's Jamie: "nooooooooo" said "nuuuuuuu". LOL

  21. Scratch and sniff of burning witch - it could work.

  22. I smiled so big when I heard that song!

I had my husband listen to some of the audiobook because I wasn't sure what it was exactly that bothered me so much about Davina doing the male voices. I cracked up so hard when my husband said, "it's because she sounds like a lesbian, not a man." (sorry, no offense meant) But that's it!!

  23. The song is really lovely!
I hope to catch the live performance in Aberdeen. Lovely music, great scenery, men in kilts...what more can you ask for? :0)

  24. L and Megs - LOL!! You're both cracking me up!

Cairine: JEALOUS! JEALOUS! JEALOUS! I was just looking at photos from my trip to Scotland today.. it was 10 years ago this month. :( Must. Get. Back. NOW! Have a great time and please tell us all about it if you go!

  25. Oh, here is some information on Allen Scott-Douglas who is singing for Jamie
