Outlander the Musical

I'm a little late to the party on this... but I have to post about Outlander the Musical. CHECK OUT THAT WEBSITE and prepare to SQUEEEEE your FACE off!!

Honestly though - I have mixed feelings about this. I am in love with the idea of a collection of Outlander songs - with beautiful singing - some Gaelic - and breathtaking, ethereal music - oh yeah...I can handle that. I may, in fact, flip out to the point of being committed to a rubber room over it.

But "Outlander the Musical"? I think I'm having problems with the word "musical".  I'm sure it would be a stunning production that would bring me to my knees in a puddle of tears cried for Jamie and Claire - a la Les Mis or Phantom. And yet - the word "musical" conjures up thoughts of Danny and Sandy frolicking around Greased Lightning in their leather and spandex. Not Jamie and Claire professing their love whilst not being gentle about it.

  1. Well, right now "Outander the Musical" is not 100 percent accurate, I would say. It's more like "Outlander the Concert Version." ONLY the songs exist--no book, so it's just a series of songs that correspond to various parts of the book.

But given that I am a HUGE musical theater gal, I am squeeeeeing day and night about this!!!

  2. I consider myself a big musical theater person, too. But "Outlander the Musical", not so much. Sorry. Just seems a little odd. I did like the Gaelic song, but the concept of this as a musical for me is kind of like every movie being released in 3D-it loses the effect.

  3. Oh god.
This would just be amazing, if you ask me.But I listened to the samples and I was sort of dissapointed..but I am an actress (seriously, not kidding, ironic I know) and my brain is just going 'Acting plus Jamie? What could go wrong?!' but idk...i'm now thinking that a lot could go wrong. I am afraid it will turn into wicked which had absolutley no subtance. I'm trying to think how I could be casted in this?
I'm imagining myself in castle leoch watching Jamie and Claire sing.
    It's giving me chills!!

  4. I'm intrigued. The Blood of My Blood song had me hooked, but listening to the rest of the samples has me slightly confused. Claire's voice..uh, I dunno. Maybe I just need to hear more. Maybe she'll grow on me. But I'm still squeeing too. This just brings my love for the books to a whole new level!!

I wish they had developed a different name for the venture. I'm sure some creative person could have come up with something better than "Outlander the Musical."

I'll be on vacation when the cd's are shipped. I'm wondering if I can have it shipped to the beach--don't think I can wait till I get back!

  5. Well, squeee!!!This was great, I thought. I definitely want to hear more.
The word Musical threw me off a bit too, but like you said Carol, if they can do something like Phantom, Les Miserables etc. then it would just be great, imo. I was looking to see if they actually say that it will be a musical, or if the cd is all it will be...

But the problem resurfaces again.... who would play Jamie, I ask? LOL Now, not only do they need to find someone who's 6'4', BIG, with long red hair, blue eyes, and a full mouth, who can act, he also has to be able to sing! Now this man, I truly would like to see...

  8. That is hilarious Patti and Lindy. It could be a comedy and Jamie could croak through his songs! LOL

  10. Jamie could speak/sing like Richard Burton in Camelot...(can you tell I am a musical theater geek - or since I am a singer, a gleek) but I agree with those who are not thrilled with Claire's singing voice. Her speaking voice though, with Jamie in Bone of my Bone gave me chills. Did you check out the picture of the man playing Jamie? I looked at his picture and thought "Hmmm; cat eyes and nose slightly too long..." and darned if that wasn't one of the lines in his bio! Seriously seeking Jamie!

  12. I think it is going to amazing! i bought the CD. I was skeptical at first but now I am totally on board. it is a bit funny though since Jamie is tone deaf in the books.
