Frank and "Black Jack" Randall: Another Lightbulb Moment

I'm watching Sherlock Holmes....and I feel like the Frank/Black Jack Randall answer has been right here, under my nose the whole time!  Attractive.. Distinguished..  And able to look downright sinister.

Yup.

Jude.
Law.

What say you?

  1. ooo... I like it!
    Good idea!

How 'bout the guy that was in (500) Days of Summer - sorry, can't place his name right now - for a Young Ian? He's got the acting chops and those beautiful warm brown eyes... sigh. Plus, he's not really handsome in the traditional Hollywood leading man way. BTW - my fav lines from that movie:
    "Who's Lars?"
"Just some guy she met at the gym with Brad Pit's face and Jesus's abs."
If you haven't seen it YOU MUST! Really, really sweet & cute.

Sorry I missed chat the last two times - computer issues and then last night my 'real' book group - with actual in-person people - met...
I hope to be back with y'all next Monday - maybe the GN will be in our hands by then (if my pre-order gets delivered early?!)

  2. O.M.G. Great choice!!

Am watching the season finale of Covert Affairs... how about Christopher Gorham for Roger?

  3. Christie--that movie is on right now! It's Joseph Gordon Levitt--he's a good choice assuming he's got the height. Sidenote--years ago he was the kid on "Third Rock From the Sun."

It's so funny cause I've been wanting to watch that movie but keep turning it on once it's already started. Oh well.

  4. RE Jude Law: I have three words for you:

    LORD. JOHN. GREY.

    Perfection.

  5. Christie: Yes! He's my Young Ian too :)

Tracey: I agree. Although he's probably my 2nd choice for LJ (my first being Guy Pearce after a YouTube casting video I saw before I ever met LJ). But I def see Jude more of LJ than BJR. HE will always be Jason Isaacs. I think. ;)

  6. Oooh Tracey I forgot about LJG. I suppose I can see him for either. ANd although I agree with you, Sassy, that Jason Isaacs will always be my first choice for BJR... I am always searching for other possibilities. I want to be READY when Hollywood gets its act together and makes this film/series. ;)

  7. I wouldn't have thouhgt of it on my own, but I can totally see Jude Law as BJR/FR AND Lord John. That is quite a dilemma...

  8. He certainly is capable of playing either role IMO, but he will forever and always be my LJG. Just finished reading ECHO and I am really missing the 'ole Outlander gang. I've gotten very attached to Young Ian and LJG. That last one has really suprised me. Hoping to catch you up at a chat one of these days.

  9. That would be one damn hot BJR! I could see him as LJG as well. My first thought for LJG was Doogie Howser. I canna remember the actor's name and will forever call him Doogie Howser... Sorry.

  10. OMG!!! If that is BJR then I want to turn him into a straight guy!!!

Indeed!! Yet another one I would be determined to turn straight!

  12. Oooh, Tracey! You are on to something with Jude Law as LJG. I think that's a great casting idea!

I've basically had sex with Jude Law AT LEAST ten times in my head, so we can't go wrong with him. It's just a shame LJG swings the other way if we're gonna stick him with Jude. Although he can be persuaded otherwise it seems...at least when our favorite Sassenach is involved. ;-) (God, I absolutely canna wait to see what comes of THAT storyline!!)

BTW, I really [heart] Lord John now that I've finished Echo. And I've read all the Lord John books and it's really helped me grow attached to him, especially Brotherhood of the Blade.

  13. Has anyone had a look at Henry Cavill - he is LJG...

  14. My Roger will always be Matt Bomer from White Collar... check him out - and the character he plays is cheeky enough to pull off Roger, too!!

  15. I agree with Tracey on this one. Jude Law IS Lord John Grey.

Joseph Gordon Levitt is a great choice for a young Ian, and I absolutely love Matt Bomer as Roger. Had to google him, since I had never heard of him, but he could definitely do Roger. Some longer hair, and a Scottish accent, and he'd be good to go.

  16. OMG yes - Jude Law must be included. I am leaning ever so slightly toward LJG but I think that's bc I envision Jason Isaacs as Black Jack Randall, but Jude Law would do well too. I also feel verra strongly that the amazing Tom Hardy should be included, but where, I dinna know! He could even do a Stephen Bonnet but that's because I really dislike Colin Farrell with a blonde dye job and for some weird reason still see him as Roger :-) Who knows why!

  17. Also, in a pinch, Jude Law could just play all of the characters. A one man show. I don't think I would complain :-) either way, as long as he's in it!

  18. I like this guy as Frank/Black Jack, but he has to be able to do two roles: pompous ass prof and sinister rapist.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Just a general comment regarding Frank. Do you think he was a chronic cheater or only started seeing other women when Claire disappeared?

    ReplyDelete
  20. If Jude Law was Frank - it would have been a heck of a lot harder to leave him behind!! Whoever played Jamie would have to be even hotter!?!?! Is that possible??
But he would also be a great evil BJR...
I picture LJG as being more fair - lighter hair and skin - but I wouldn't argue with Jude as LJ either.

Heck, he could even pull off being Roger!
    Jude can do anything.

  21. re: 'Jude can do anything.'

    ... including the nanny.

oops! Did I say that out loud?
    Sorry! Bad Christie, bad, bad!

  22. @Paula,

Frank and cheating. Well, DG keeps hinting there is no evidence he cheated, that we are only seeing him through Claire's eyes.

My problem with her hint is that he admits it during their last argument. But, he was getting ready to leave Claire, or so he implied. He was shocked she accused him and felt hurt she had never said anything before. He felt it was another indication she didn't care about him and the marriage.

Since he was leaving he may have decided to get revenge by letting Claire believe he had cheated. Sort of a "see what it feels like" kind of thing.

In any event, if he didn't actually cheat, he certainly led women on and/or played on their sympathies about his relationship with Claire.

  23. Jumping on in the midst of a CRAZY ARSED day b/c someone mentioned a Stephen Bonnet, and I must say that I have officially changed mine from Colin Farrell to.....

    Bret Michaels.

Admit lasses, it's so wrong it's right. Talll, blonde, skanalicious, and yet, sortakinda hot. Just like wee Stevie.

  24. Love Jude Law!
Don't like guy from 500 days of Summer... He's too small, I think.

Like Brett Michaels for Stephen Bonnet.

Also, like Ben Afleck for Roger.
    :)

  25. Yes! Law as the Lord. My opinion ever since Cold Mountain came out.

  26. What about Jon Hamm as Frank/BJR? On Mad Men he's proven his ability to play a man leading two dramatically seperate lives- both a charismatic ladies man and an insecure, ruthless liar. Plus, he's just plain HOT (he would look amazing in 1700's garb!) :)

  27. Hi - love your blog, just stumbled upon it in my pre-Exile fervor!

I have to chime in. Though most of the readers south of a certain border might not know this guy, Steven Sabados = LJG. Every time I catch him on Steven & Chris, I think, Yup, that's him.

  28. Jane,

I think Frank cheated because he confessed as much in his letter to the Reverend.

My question is...did he cheat before Claire disappeared through the stones?

    Anybody have an opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, I think he cheated. Claire and Frank had a talk about what happened while they were apart during the war. No specifics, but he made it sound like a possibility.

  30. Ooo Brett Michaels as Stephen Bonnet! I also love the addition of Jon Hamm. Great ideas :-) Your blog has the most clever readers, Carol and Tracey! Word.

  31. Oh yes, Tom Hardy must fit in somewhere. He might be a good Frank/BJR, actually. His angry bitter Heathcliff was divine. Maybe he'd be a good Dougal - a sexy bad boy with a cruel side. He's maybe a wee bit too pretty for that, though. Back to Stephen Bonnet - he'd be perfect.

  32. I think he wood work as the Randalls. He looks mean in the photo. I think he could pull off both characters. Smooth as Frank and the twistedness of Black Jack.

  33. Did I say wood instead of would, lol. Still trying to recover from the bed scene art I guess.
