My Outlander Purgatory bud Carla sent in this suggestion... and I think it's fabu as this fellow is pretty scrumpdillyicious. Richard Armitage from North and South... Spooks.... and Robin Hood - all BBC series.
He definitely has the ability to play both dashing and evil... so that's a major plus, right?!
Richard Armitage Reading North & South (Birthday Video) from Spikesbint on Vimeo.
He has always been my number one choice for Frank/BJR!
ReplyDeleteHe would manage playing both characters really well but the only problem is that there is a chance that we'd all be drooling and slavering over Frank and (God help Us) Jack Randell!
Was I the only one watching Robin Hood was thought Marian was daft for not jumping into bed with Guy and dumping Robin?
Yes, he'd be good. I've seen him as a bad boy elsewhere in a online fiction story. Very hot and could be very wicked. I can see Claire in those moments she's looking at him and going "oh Frank, no no no it's evil Jack".
ReplyDeleteHe would be great as both Frank and Jack.
Not a bad choice at all! After all, Frank has to be hunky, since in Claire's life Before Jamie she was very much in love with Frank - and we all approve of her excellent taste in men!
ReplyDeleteI'd take him for Roger!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Sara.....
ReplyDeleteHe's too dangerous and secretive to be Roger and he's well suited to both roles--Frank and Jack.
There are better actors for Roger and some who can sing even. Richard doesn't sing. Richard's good with horses and swords. Moreover, those piercing, icy eyes don't suit Roger.
I love this! I've been lobbying for this for the last couple of years. because I know Richard would be brilliant in this dual role. I've suggested him to Diana a couple of times, once in an e-mail that was answered by an assistant to the effect that Diana wasn't involved in the casting at all, and then I suggested it to Diana herself at her "Exile" graphic novel launch in Scottsdale. She didn't know who Richard was, but I know that his work in Captain America and then in The Hobbit will make him very well-known to many.
ReplyDeleteI know there's an option out for a film or miniseries of Outlander, but I saw Katherine Heigl's name mentioned in connection with it -- has anyone heard anything further on that?
I watched North and South a few months ago and I instantly thought that he would be great for Frank/Jack. Have you seen it? The ending scene at the train station...in Carol's words...LOOORRRRRRDDDDDDDD!! He was so amazing and there was some serious swoonage taking place :)
ReplyDelete-Bri
That scene is without a doubt the most romantic ever. You've been able to resist temptation and only watch it once? Wow. Have you seen RA as the baddie, Guy of Gisborne, in the BBC's Robin Hood? Serious leather swoonage material. Campy, inconsistent, best scenes are with Guy and Keith Allen, Sheriff of Nottingham . . . oh, except for the ones where he's shirtless.
ReplyDeleteI watched it like 5 times in a row!!! I couldn't get enough. I immediately googled him and then put the BBC Robin Hood series in my Netflix queue, but haven't seen it yet. I think I'll go right now and move it to the top...
ReplyDeleteGood girl! If you check on richardarmitagenet or richardarmitageonline, they have a list of all of his work, and then of course there are the proboards (such as c19) where we talk about all of his work -- and related interests. We won't see him again until summer 2011 when Captain America opens, and he plays evil Nazi spy Hans Kruger. Can hardly wait!
ReplyDeleteHe's a little too young for me to play Frank, and he sounds more Scots than British to me too.
ReplyDeleteArabella.....Armitage currently is 39 1/2 years old and is English--perfect for Frank in the first "Outlander" novel. In the "N&S" recording shared on this site, he is reading in the dialect of the northern manufacturing city of his character John Thornton, who has the same dialect in the film. You would very much enjoy "North and South," were you to see it.
ReplyDeleteGood choice for Frank/BJR!
ReplyDeleteHe's brilliant with accents. If you check on the websites I mentioned above, you can find examples of his voice-over work with other accents, especially the Georgette Heyer audio books. I think he's the perfect age and look as well. And with the fan bases of both Diana and Richard combined, this could be a fantastic opportunity for Outlander.
ReplyDeleteYummy! Love the voice and the look.
ReplyDeleteNow this is My Outlander Purgatory Purgatory...time for a new post!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I've ever seen him in anything but YES can see him as Frank! Maybe I shoudn't have come to your blog today, i'm going to be going thru Outlander withdraws LOL
ReplyDeleteI LOVE him in North and South. Have you seen the "hand scene"? There is this shot that is solely focused on his hands--trust me on this. His hands are perfection. Anyways, I'm not sure if I could handle him being the "bad guy." But he has got "smolder" down like no one else.
ReplyDeleteMs K - "hand porn"! I know many women who feel that way about Robert Pattinson's hands! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLis - oh BELIEVE ME- I have been in withdrawal for months. It's SO hard!!
Adventures - ugh - this time of year is SO HARD. Wait until January - you guys will be sick to death of me! ;)

Mr. AdNorth & I just started N&S last night. Richard Armitage is absolutely Frank & BJR. I could easily see him pulling off both roles. Great call! And I also see that he reads the audio Lords of the North by Bernard Cornwell....yay!
ReplyDeleteFinished N&S last night and have one other casting call: Auld Mrs. Thornton for Jenny!!!
ReplyDeleteExcept for the hair color, I would love for him to be Jamie!! Have you seen him in Sparkhouse and the Vicar of Dibley? If not, check out YouTube. He can display shyness and naivete very well..but then RA is such a great actor since he is credible as both hero and villain.
ReplyDeleteTo have him say "Sassenach" or "mo duinne" would be great!
