MOP Video: Season 5, Episode 507 "The Ballad of Roger Mac" RECAP

My Outlander Purgatory's Carol and Tracey are back to recap the latest episode of Season 5 of Outlander, the Starz series based on Diana Gabaldon's best selling book series. Join us as we break down every moment of this AMAZING episode, including all things Coronapocalypse, including whether or not it can be used as a diet (sorry y’all for THAT tangent, but it’s unavoidable these days…fast forward to around minute 13 if you just can’t take it); the tour de force performance that Sam Heughan delivers; the send-off that Murtaugh deserved all along; the ill-advised timing of that “Previously on” segment with Bonnet throwing the ill overboard; why Rog should be worried every time he looks at Jem; Jamie Fraser’s words to live by; why Claire’s words to the Browns would have sent MOP Tom OFF. THE. EDGE; why Jamie is soooorrrrrta responsible for Murtaugh’s end; why cutting his hand a few hours before wielding a gun may be a second bad decision for JAMMF; why social distancing was probably a good idea for Roger; why Tryon’s present to Jamie KILLED US (AND makes JAMMF’s butt look HUGE); which one of us recognized the identity of Buck and which did not; why Claire’s Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ TOTALLY worked; why Edward Cullen was sorely needed in this episode (and which Outlander character would make the best vampire); who Duncan LaCroix will come back as; the fantasticness that is that last JAMMF/Tryon scene; how JAMMF’s actions were like Salma Hayek’s during the Harvey Weinstein years; how skipping an Outlander episode next week is cruel and unusual punishment; and MUCH MUCH MORE!!

  1. Tim Downie plays Tryon and is really very funny on his instagram.

  2. Carol! I was as stunned as you. I'm way more used to yelling at the screen, 'NO!' -This time... utter silence. It was all predictable, and still, soooo impactful. Just, kicked in the gut. Sam was heartbreakingly wonderful! Last time I felt that way was watching Jamie ride away from Willie as the music played on. This season is so much better than the last two. I didn't even sign up for Starz this year because I was so over it. Glad I tuned in and caught up! Thanks ladies. Be well.

  3. Episode 7 was riveting! I wonder if they switched directors for this episode. Jamie emerged as the Jamie Frazier we love and adore! Not only is he physically superb but it was a master class in acting!

  4. Loved how Claire channeled Marilyn Monroe singing Happy Birthday!

  5. Glad your here! As a Chicago “shelter in place” your show is refreshing! Too bad we can’t be live with questions!!

  6. Best episode this season for sure. Hand Sam Heughan every award now. Don't even bother with that category for Emmys or Golden Globes or whatever. Give him a Tony, an Oscar, and maybe a Grammy. (Or maybe Caitriona gets the Grammy for singing "Happy Birthday". I loved the humor, the tragedy, the surprises, and the AMAZING ACTING. This was STELLAR.

Love you guys. I kept refreshing your page until this recap appeared.

    Stay healthy, be well.

    Waving hello from Costa Rica,
    Connie

  7. Yes.... exactly! Jamie finally has emerged on-screen as the man I've been reading about for twenty years. Five seasons, and seven episodes in, 'Yay, team!' Go, Sam!

  8. Tim Downie plays Tryin. He’s also a great comedic actor. You can see him on Drunk History

  10. Wondering if they chose Graham to play Buck because they are, ummm SPOILER...

related. Something to think about anyway. Wouldn’t be surprising that they look alike, considering the relationship

  11. Just want to say, y’all really helped my self-isolating last night. It’s just me and my dog.
Also wanted to say, I’ve just finished my 3rd watch and still bawl😢 Bear McCreary also needs a slow golf clap. The music during the battle was the same as when the Highlanders were going into Culloden, gut wrenching.
I’m a book reader so know the outcome. That’s the only thing that will make waiting 2 weeks bearable. That an wine!
Stay safe and feel better soon Carol.

  12. Appreciate this season better than other recent ones. Seems that now Sam and Cait are producers we see better writing and characters that more closely resemble DG's books. Glad for the improvements, and happy to give them the credit!

  14. A bit off topic as there isn't an episode this week, so I watched Bosch on Amazon. Great show and you have to see actress Madison Lintz as Bosch's daughter - a younger version of Sophie Skelton! She should have played Brianna in the 1960's. Check it out and let me know if you
    agree :)
